Super bowl XLVI will be coming to Indianapolis, Indiana next year. Mark the day- February 5, 2012! This marks the 46th year of the Super Bowl in American Football and 42 annual championship game of the NFL (National Football League).

This is the first time ever that this loved football game will in Indiana. This sporting event will be held at the Lucas Oil Stadium and the city government is posed to hold a lot of activities for the event including an outdoor Super Bowl Village and other activities to be held at the Indiana Convention Center. This upcoming event will be televised on national television in the United States via NBC.

Indianapolis did not get to be the event host for this famed sport event by chance. The NFL franchise owners did choose the location after three cities were presented for bidding to get Super Bowl to be held in their city. The Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau did bid to host the event and plans to hold it at the Reliant Stadium. Glendale, Arizona was also a contender to host the Super Bowl XLVI and proposed to hold it at the University of Phoenix Stadium.

Indianapolis declared their intention to offer their city for as the host for Super Bowl in February 19, 2008. It was officially announced by Jim Irsay, owner of Colts and the honorable mayor of Indianapolis, Mayor Ballard. The Arsenal Technical High School is also offered to be one of the practice facilities of the players of the game.

It was not without obstacles that Indianapolis finally gets the spot. There was a labor dispute that arouse last spring /summer 2011 that can possibly postpone the event for good. Officials of NFL wanted to move the game schedule to the 2nd week of January. But it was a good thing that the labor dispute reached a resolution July of this year. It is good to go this February 5. The Super Bowl XLVIwill be heading to Indiana, Indianapolis so do watch for this thrilling sports event!
